Heart of the Company: Our Talented Company Members

Playground Theatre Project is comprised of the best young actors New Jersey has to offer. Our company members have studied the craft of acting extensively for years. Ranging from the ages of 8 to 40, they have not only received acclaim locally, but have also worked professionally in feature films, television, commercials, and print.

The Misfits
The Misfits is our touring company of socially conscious young actors between the ages of 13 and 19. They travel to schools, churches, youth groups, community centers, libraries, museums, and theaters across America to perform original social issue plays concerning human rights, violence, drug and alcohol dependency, racism, bullying, and teen suicide for 7th to 12th grade audiences. This unique company of young people truly care about the world around them. They choose to spend their free time helping others and using their talents to do something positive for their society. After much experience doing social issue theatre, these exceptional young actors put forth performances that are always powerful, always relatable, and always effective in getting their positive message across.

The Mini Misfits
The Mini Misfits is our newest and most innovative creation. This unique touring company is similar to its parent company in every way except for one thing—they are much younger. This amazing troupe of actors are between the ages of 7 and 13 perform original plays concerning bullying, violence, racism and human rights for K thru 6th grade audiences. This exceptional cast of kids not only perform a show that is entertaining and effective, but they are also the youngest company of its kind. The Mini Misfits relate peer to peer with younger audiences and hit their positive message home like no other medium possibly could. They may be small but they are mighty.

All company members are extensively trained in the art of acting and are current students of Actors Playground School of Theatre, where our company is based out of.

Actors PlaygrounDActors Playground School of Theatre is a conservatory style studio that offers the highest level of professional training in the art of acting for all mediums and for all ages. The Playground’s friendly and creative atmosphere provides a strong foundation of encouragement and trust that allows its students to gain confidence in their work and challenge themselves uncluttered to explore their creative imagination. With classes taught by highly qualified and passionate theatre professionals, The Playground’s curriculum is cutting edge and covers a vast array of subjects and styles The school is also a place where aspiring actors can network about industry opportunities and projects, where young playwrights and filmmakers can have readings and hold auditions, where actors can audition for some of the industry’s best agents and managers, where well-known actors come to teach seminars, and because of our partnership with Industry Film School, where students can now learn to act for the camera by participating in student films. Artists work together and support each other at this school. Bullying or intimidation of any kind is not tolerated.

Classes meet once a week, are 90 to 120 minutes in length, and are offered Mon thru Sat. Each class is $30, payable monthly. A second class is an additional $15, and a third class is free. Unlimited classes are $240 a month. Private sessions for enrolled students are always free. Actors Playground is proud to be the home of the Playground Theatre Project.
